• Cosmos caudatus (kenikir, ulam raja) is eaten as a fresh leaf vegetable (ulam) in Southeast Asia and is traditionally used in folk practice.
• The leaves contain high amounts of polyphenols and show a very high antioxidant capacity in laboratory tests. Epidemiological studies have found that a higher intake of vegetables rich in phenolic compounds is associated with a lower frequency of several chronic diseases. Such studies cannot prove cause and effect, and no health effect of Cosmos caudatus in people can be concluded from them.
