Nutrition, Traditional Use and Research

The statements below describe nutrition facts, traditional use and published research. They are not health claims for our products.

  • Oranges and other citrus fruits are a well-known source of vitamin C. Vitamin C contributes to the normal function of the immune system, to the protection of cells from oxidative stress, and to normal collagen formation for the normal function of the skin and blood vessels.
  • Citrus fruits also contain fiber, folate and potassium. Fiber contributes to normal bowel function, folate to normal maternal tissue growth during pregnancy, and potassium to the maintenance of normal blood pressure.
  • Citrus fruits contain flavonoids, such as hesperidin, which show antioxidant activity in laboratory tests. This does not show an effect in people.
  • In traditional folk practice, orange peel and leaves are used in teas and as flavoring. These are traditional uses only.
